Lerøy Midt is a 6800 m2 salmon factory with integrated warehouse and 1200 m2 office section. Construction of this complex is highly mixed – we were enforced to design a lot of exceptional connections between precast reinforced elements, steel beams and the construction of the roof. Factory will be located at the Hitra island on the south coast of Norway. Because of that the environment conditions are very demanding – due to one of the biggest values of concrete covers and the pressure from the architect to minimize cross section of the elements, we were forced to take all of the advantages of Tekla Structure. Positioning of reinforcement bars and steel items had to be perfect. This could not be possible without the use of BIM technologies. Tekla has allowed us to work comfortable with a different levels of the plans, with a lot of MEP elements in a natural, 3D environment. Its huge profile library provided us a basis for modelling all of the used objects: two types of sandwich wall – rib and standard, Gerber’s beams, flanged beams, five types of hollow core slabs, TT-slabs, HSQ steel beams and a lot of connection plates and accessories.
The main difficulty in this project was a small repeatability of elements. Almost all of the prefab objects were unique. It was an unusual situation but with Tekla – everything is possible. We managed to use a standard Tekla tools with a help with own programs created with Tekla Open API. Usage of Tekla-based automation enhanced by developed procedures is a great profit of this environment.
Cooperation with other branches is especially crucial in a large, industrial projects like Lerøy Midt. The IFC files with a support of free Tekla BIMsight is currently the best solution for multi-branched investments. On the other side, drawings produced in Tekla are nearly perfect, so after a small amount of work of detailer they can be send to prefabrication factory. We had to prepare 540 highly detailed production drawing and nearly 70 assembly drawings.
Prefabricated concrete structures are very demanding in aspect of assembly. We had to model over 800 temporary support for the elements. Because of working in 3D environment we were able to carefully analyse possibilities of anchoring and predict them at the one of the first stages of production – changes on the construction site are minimized, so the overall cost of project is less than in typical, non-Tekla way. Construction works should be completed in April 2018.
