Edibo had been assigned as general contractor for a joint construction project on the former factory site ‘De Stordeur.’ Three different clients, joined in this project, filed an application for a new building that is far from standard.
The Stordeur was used as a location for a Prik & Tik liquor store, a Renault / Dacia showroom with a roof car park and a new climbing hall ‘De Stordeur’.
Thanks to its size, with his highest point at 31m, the new building is a true landmark when entering Leuven, and is clearly visible along the train track and the viaduct on the E314.

In addition, the climbing room, with its +/- 15m high climbing route, meets all the requirements for organizing a Belgian and international championship.

The building is a unique mix between steel and concrete, thanks to a strong cooperation with a few subcontractors. For example, the concrete structure was fully drawn by Edibo, and through close consultation with Ergon, the adjusted reference models were imported into our model in order to correctly process the steel structure in its entirety.

To make the project run smoothly, the building was divided into 6 different phases.
In the first phase, the liquor store was build with the roof car park on top, followed by the construction of the showroom and garage.
The liquor store was given priority in this project because of its deadline. It also opened at an early stage.
At the bottom of the tower, the steel was assembled between the concrete structure, after which a complete steel structure of more than 13 meters high was placed on top. For logistical reasons, the part between the tower and the garage was built as the 5th phase. The final phase consisted of placing the awnings.

The work was completed in February 2018, after which the other two stores were opened with great interest.
Edibo looks back on this project with pride. Good communication and insight from all parties involved have led to a beautiful building.
