The new ice rink in Turnhout will be home to four ice sports clubs. In addition, individual skaters, schools and associations will also use the building. The large hall will be provided with a grandstand all around and there is a separate lane for Curling.
The project is a combination of a prefab concrete and steel structure. The substructure of the hall is entirely in prefab concrete and the large spans in the roof are realized by steel trusses. The entrance hall consists of a combination of steel on the one hand and concrete columns and beams on the other. While d-Concrete worked out the prefab concrete structure, ASK Romein provided the steel structure. Thanks to the close cooperation and the possibilities in Tekla, we were able to ensure that our models were perfectly matched. For example, we had to draw all kinds of steel pieces into our concrete elements for fixing the steel structure. Other components also had to be coordinated with each other, such as the concrete core activation in the tribune elements. We had to incorporate this heating system into our elements so that it is compatible with the reinforcement.
In addition to coordinating our prefab concrete structure with the steel structure of ASK Romein, there is also the management of the various sister companies within the CRH group. The prefab structure consists of a combination of reinforced columns, reinforced beams, prestressed beams, prestressed hollowcore slabs, solid slabs, hollow walls, solid walls, sandwich panels, staircases, shuttering slabs and gradins. These elements come from different companies within our CRH group. All this can only be achieved by working with a central BIM model.
