We designed the complex design for Cordeel C-metal by architect Olivier Dwek and translated it into an executable production. This construction includes the elliptical and spiral staircase with twisted plates as well as the different levels in the penthouse of the Apple Store Brussels in the Guldenvlieslaan in Brussels, Belgium.

It was very important to apply BIM for this project, as the new staircase and the different levels had to fit into an existing building. Among other things, a very heavy beam was cleared of concrete and measured, so a connection for the stairs was possible. The model was then used to be able to translate the torsion of the staircase into executable drawings, part drawings and assemblies of the structure.

The spiral staircase weighs only 4.2 tons in total, but had to be divided into different parts. These parts had to be lifted to the top of the penthouse and brought in through a narrow opening on the roof of the building. After the lifting, the different parts were welded together in the penthouse. The relation between the parts were preserved with mounting couplings.

The installation of this staircase took place in the spring of 2022. Other parties will finish the staircase with, among other things, gyproc railings and floor materials.
