This challenging project required extensive preparation and therefore was perfectly suited to be addressed as a BIM project. Veto Beton & Staal was involved in the preliminary phase of the project and was asked based on their expertise to think along how the BAM could realize this project and especially things like the sloping brickwork. The brickwork in the side walls sloped upwards from the bottom. To make this possible we engineered a facade support as well as a prefab concrete lintel (covered with brick strips) that was placed under the facade support.

Besides the above the biggest challenge was the rear facade of the building that sloped upwards also and had a crescent shape at the eaves. The top was finished with brickwork on the prefab elements itself and to prevent the brickwork from sliding we engineered brackets that where fixed into the prefab elements. It was engineered in such a manner that the angle of the brackets was adjustable, so it was easy to mount the brickwork onto the prefab elements. The brackets where also supplied with a special perforated plate through in which custom-made wall anchors where placed. This way it was ensured that brickwork would not be blown off by the wind and that safety was guaranteed.

What made this project extra special was the fact that one kilometer of glass balustrade was used. A special rebate was made in the concrete elements based on groovEe™. EeStairs (the company who invented this system) developed a formwork with plastic embeds. After Vebo had poured the concrete, EeStairs removes the EPS, then installed the glass balustrade and finishes it off.

In all this project is a fantastic example of the combination between the various concrete and steel products of Vebo and demonstrates the power of the combination Vebo and BTE can offer
