For the project VDL Energy Systems Almelo , Franken Architectuur from Bergeijk made a design for a hall complex with office. Bolwerk-Weekers made a structural design for this.
A special feature of the design are the many crane tracks, including a large number of wall-mounted jib cranes. The heaviest crane track mounted in the highest hall has a crane capacity of 100 tons.
What posed a challenge in the design is the requestment to a future expand from the hall complex with continuous crane tracks. As a result, the extension facade may not form part of the stability system and that with a hall complex with a wind surface of approximately 20 x 120 meters.
Due to the long cooperation of VDL Vastgoed (building management), VDL Technics (production of steel structures and more), Franken Architecture, Ingenieursbureau Bolwerk-Weekers and EVR Staalconstructeurs, we (EVR) are involved in the design process at an early stage with regard to the possibilities for an efficient implementation of the steel structure.
The use of the BIM method was certainly not shunned. The Revit models by architect and constructor were therefore the basis for the steel construction. For checking mainly use was made of the exchange of the various models. In addition, models from, among others, the installers were used in later phases.
It is obvoius that by using BIM the different disciplines are closer together and therefore communication has shorter lines. All this ensures a good and thorough total model and therefore also sub-models per discipline.
Due to the use of BIM, the various construction phases went smoothly and a beautiful product was once again created.
