At the request of the municipality of Amsterdam, Vic Obdam Staalbouw bv was asked to realize two RWA shafts (smoke heat shafts) for the Northsouth line location metro station de PIJP. The shafts have the function that in the event of calamities the polluted air is drained and fresh air is added. The shaft is a total of 26 meters high, of which 16 meters above ground level, with a cross section of 2.7 x 4 and a weight of approximately 78 tons
The original design was based on a steel structure made up of loose beams and columns with concrete outerwear attached to it.
The building time was limited due to exit of public road, therefor, we have put in the project with the idea of building it fully prefabricated.
