Obiekt zajmuje około 12,5 akra i łączy przestrzenie do aktywnego oraz spokojnego wypoczynku. Znajduje się tu blisko 39 500 stóp kwadratowych powierzchni wewnętrznej przeznaczonej na różnorodne funkcje, w tym sale wielofunkcyjne i biura. Całość uzupełnia trzypoziomowy parking.
Aby tchnąć nowe życie w to ważne miejsce i zapewnić mu dalsze funkcjonowanie, firma SRA odpowiada za opracowanie programu, planu zagospodarowania oraz projektów obejmujących nowe obiekty, rozbudowy i modernizacje. W ramach inwestycji powstaną m.in. sale dydaktyczne, przestrzenie wielofunkcyjne, obiekty sportowe, zaplecze sanitarne oraz punkty gastronomiczne. Projekt zakłada również zastąpienie sześciu oryginalnych budynków, co stanowi jedną z największych zmian w historii tego kompleksu.
Efektem będzie stworzenie elastycznych przestrzeni, które łączą wnętrza z otoczeniem zewnętrznym, umożliwiając korzystanie ze świeżego powietrza i kontakt z naturą. Centralna, wielofunkcyjna strefa pozwoli na organizację różnorodnych wydarzeń przez cały rok, a spójna koncepcja architektoniczna zintegruje poszczególne części kompleksu, sprzyjając swobodnemu przemieszczaniu się i zachowaniu więzi z istniejącą historyczną zabudową.
The Sunset Canyon Recreation Center has served the UCLA community for over 50 years, maintaining its role as a gathering place for generations of students, faculty, and the local community.
The facility spans approximately 12.5 acres and combines spaces for both active and passive recreation. It includes nearly 39,500 square feet of indoor space dedicated to a variety of functions, including multipurpose rooms and offices. The complex is complemented by a three-level parking structure.
To revitalize this important site and ensure its continued use, SRA is responsible for developing the program, master plan, and designs covering new buildings, expansions, and renovations. The project will include classrooms, multipurpose spaces, sports facilities, sanitary amenities, and food service areas. It also includes the replacement of six original buildings, marking one of the most significant transformations in the history of the complex.
The result will be the creation of flexible spaces that seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor environments, allowing users to enjoy fresh air and a connection to nature. A central multifunctional zone will support a wide range of events throughout the year, while a cohesive architectural concept will integrate the various parts of the complex, encouraging easy circulation and preserving a connection to the existing historic structures.
